CalSulf as perfect fertilizer for agriculture

CalSulf as perfect fertilizer for agriculture

Within its Energy by-Products division, EP Resources markets not only conventional products such as fly ash, energy gypsum, slag and granulate, but also the certified CalSulf (calcium sulphate) fertiliser based on energy gypsum.

This fertiliser is used for basic fertilisation of agricultural crops with sulphur and calcium in all soil and climatic conditions. Due to its properties and price, it is becoming widely used by farmers. It contains sulphur in the form of sulphate, thereby increasing the proportion of water-soluble sulphur in the soil, which is an indispensable biogenic element for plants.

Finely ground CalSulf is one of the least acidifying sources of sulphur at low cost, with the potential to release phosphorus and potassium from the soil, altering physical properties in the same way as other lime fertilisers.

“It turns out that after desulphurisation of large power and heating plants, sulphur becomes a deficient element. This element is involved in the formation of quality and yield parameters and its deficiency decreases biosynthesis and inhibits all metabolic processes. The ideal form is therefore a combination of sulphur and lime”, explains David Hoffmann, Director of Energy Products Sales.

CalSulf complies with type 4.1 as specified in Decree No. 474/2000 Coll. on the specification of requirements for fertilisers, as amended, and may be put into circulation pursuant to Section 3(1)(a) of the Fertilisers Act upon notification. The fertiliser is registered under registration number: O1018.
