Fly ash used in construction and earth works

An important part of the EP Resources portfolio comprises energy by-products, such as energy gypsum, cinder/granulates, and ashes, which are certified construction products; and meet all technical, environmental, and health criteria according to applicable legislation. However, we are not only engaged in the trade of these products, but also deal with new approaches in their use. This particularly concerns fly ash and ash stabiliser, which are gaining greater application in the construction and earth works sector.

Thanks to the free lime properties of the above-mentioned ash it is increasingly sought after by construction companies as an alternative to other lime and cement products. The ash is not only competitive in price, but also in quality.

Typical application of this product is mixing it with earth for use in over-land communication embankments or civil engineering. It can, among others, further be used as a reinforcing foundation for the construction of industrial halls or entire industrial parks. Our Company participated in the construction of such an industrial park in the Karlovy Vary region by supplying ash.

The application of our fly ash improves the properties of local construction materials. This can reduce the demands on logistics, the removal of unsuitable dirt, and the supply of suitable fill dirt. Customers see the positive impact of the combination of ash with local materials on the reduction of their carbon footprint and transport in the vicinity of the construction site. The lower frequency of traffic is appreciated by the local residents, who positively perceive both the elimination of safety risks and the lower noise levels.

The product can also be applied in construction projects dealing with a lack of backfill material. The solution is layered backfill in combination with fly ash or ash stabiliser as an adequate embankment fill. In most cases the ash prevents the necessity of open earth pits or drawing on the existing natural resources.
